Goals

Whatever goal you truly want to achieve in life, you are working on right now. It's okay to want to be a singer and wash dishes for a living, so long as you sing on your way to work, and achieving that goal will bring happiness and satisfaction into your life, and the lives of others.

The value of success is related to the price paid to achieve it, and is measured by the distance covered from start to finish. When crossing a stream it is sometimes necessary to take a few steps backward to prepare for a giant leap.

All honest work has dignity and involves using your abilities to complete tasks and solve problems. Traders are problem solvers. The best problem solvers receive the most money for their problem-solving abilities. Some of the best problem-solving ideas come from learning physics, gardening, exercising or playing chess. Unrelated work often clears your mind and allows creative energy to flow inside your mind.

Each person has three purposes in life, which can be that person's goals: You want to discover who you are from your relationship to life, time, and others; you want to recognize the uniqueness of the gifts and abilities you have received from life and apply them to what you enjoy doing; and you have the obligation to use and share your unique gifts with humanity.

Achieving the purposes of life give you a firm base for your trading ambitions and this is so for your entire trading career. It is ongoing. Yet sadly, few traders relate the purposes of life to their trading.

Derivative transactions, including futures, are complex and carry a high degree of risk. They are intended for sophisticated investors and are not suitable for everyone. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results, and all of which can adversely affect actual trading results.
