Technical Analysis

Hi Joe! Is there a difference between Technical Analysis and Chart Analysis?

Technical Analysis is a trading discipline employed to evaluate assets and identify trading opportunities by analyzing statistical trends gathered from trading activity, such as price movement and volume. Unlike fundamental analysts, who attempt to evaluate a security's intrinsic value, technical analysts focus on patterns of price movements, trading signals and various other analytical charting tools to evaluate a security's strength or weakness. Chart Analysis is part of Technical Analysis.

Most traders consider technical analysis to embrace the use of indicators. But, technical analysis also can be done with the use of charts, trendlines, speed lines, and chart patterns. Some indicators, like Andrews Pitchfork are part chart analysis and part indicator.

Derivative transactions, including futures, are complex and carry a high degree of risk. They are intended for sophisticated investors and are not suitable for everyone. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results, and all of which can adversely affect actual trading results. For more information, see the Risk Disclosure Statement for Futures and Options.
